Implant Restorations

Implant Restorations

Nowadays, there is a wide range of restoration options that dental patients can choose from. These options were brought about by advancements in the field of dentistry. Dental patients are beginning to acknowledge just how swift and efficient these new dental advancements are, making dental treatments much more stress-free and easy. Dental implants are one of these advancements that help patients who have missing teeth.

What Is A Dental Implant?

A dental implant consists of three parts: the implant itself, the abutment, and the dental restoration such as the crown. The implant is a post usually made of titanium that is surgically fixed into the jawbone to serve as a tooth root. The abutment anchors to the implant to support the placement of the dental crown. Dental implants are gaining wide acceptance among dental patients as they offer the benefits of a natural tooth.

Different Types of Implant Restorations

The three different types of implant restoration options are as follows:

Single implant restoration: This type of implant restoration helps replace one missing tooth. Whatever the reason for losing the tooth, an implant can be placed in the empty slot where the tooth used to be. The implant restoration will replace the missing tooth permanently and needs to be treated just like a natural tooth.

Dental implant bridge: When you are missing two or three teeth in a row, you could consider having a dental implant bridge. This permanent restoration is also known as an implant-supported bridge, as the implants hold the bridge firmly in position. In this dental implant procedure, two implants would be fixed in the empty outer slot. A bridge consisting of a customized prosthetic tooth in the center is secured over the implants once they have healed.

Complete implant dentures or partial implant dentures: Dental patients with multiple missing teeth or severely decayed teeth can select to have implant-supported dentures. A full implant denture consists of anywhere between four and eight implants secured in the mouth, and they help keep the dentures steadily in their place. The implants give the dentures the force required to stay firmly rooted in place. The denture patient will feel more confident while carrying out the normal functions of the mouth, such as talking and eating, without undergoing any problems.
